I had so much fun putting my son’s cake and dessert table together for his first birthday. We decided on a Barnyard theme since it’s fall and he loves the Old MacDonald Had A Farm song!
We used the same paper Barnyard and Fence that I created for his Cake Smash Photos as the backdrop for the table.
I baked the cake using two 8-inch pans and a bread pan for the barn. I shaped the barn and stacked it with a “roof” then wrapped the barn in red and brown fondant. The barn animals and fence were also made of fondant. I iced the cake using royal icing instead of wrapping it entirely in fondant. I prefer to eat cakes without fondant and I know a lot of people do too so this worked out perfectly for us.
Since I knew I was going to be busy baking and decorating my son’s birthday cake and baking cupcakes, I was not going to have time to make cookies so to save time, I ordered these barnyard animal theme cookies from Etsy.
I baked chocolate cupcakes topped with green royal icing and placed these cute Barnyard theme cupcake toppers on top. I also got fresh apples, berries and pumpkins to add to the dessert table.
I also dipped strawberries in orange candy melts and placed them on some of the chocolate cupcakes that I crumbled to make it look like “dirt”
The “chicken feed” snacks was just a combination of chex mix, m&ms, pretzels, and Gardetto’s Snack Mix.
The desserts, snacks and fruits were a hit! Everything was completely gone at the end of the day! My son really enjoyed seeing everyone –he’s a people person and so extremely social, however he was a bit alarmed to see everyone singing to him!
